Shout out to a cool woman running her own sweet little business in Saskatoon....
Carrie at Living Sky Adventures
Guided paddle boarding adventures on the South Saskatchewan River.
The basic trip is starting at Poplar Bluffs (off Valley Road) and paddling into the city - you paddle past Chief Whitecap off leash park and Yorath Island. You come sailing in under an old train bridge and a newer freeway bridge - past the thirteen homes that have river access on Saskatchewan Crescent on the east bank and the monstrosity utility buildings on the west river bank.
Paddlers experience our river in a unique way - it's kind of mind blowing if you've never been on the river in the middle of the city.
Three hours later, you dock at the small beach at Rotary Park.
Carrie does all the preparation of boards (she provides the boards) - and she, literally, does most of the heavy lifting. She's a certified instructor - experienced, super chill, friendly, and welcoming (it's comfortable to go on a trip even if you don't know anyone else on the trip) - safety comes first (no trips unless the water is flat and shallow and the wind is not prohibitive).
Also - there's a break in the middle of the adventure where you stop on a sand bar for really good snacks (provided).
You do not need anything fancy - you do not need to be super athletic to paddle board on the river - it's relaxing - it's active but it's accessible - you can also sit on your board and float some/most of the way. No pressure or stress.
You don't have to worry about capturing your good times on your phone camera because Carrie is taking photos and, later, she sends you some beautiful souvenirs.
It is a great summer adventure (every time) and definitely a unique gem of a Saskatoon experience to entertain your visiting guests.
